Blue Lagoon Akamas — by boat, jeep, or on foot. 4 ways to get there and costs

Blue Lagoon is a common, unofficial name — on the map, look for "Fontana Amorosa" or simply the bay near the Akamas peninsula, 35 km north of Pafos. This lagoon, surrounded on three sides by limestone-basalt cliffs and with turquoise water, regularly appears on lists of "Europe's most beautiful places." It has one problem: there is no paved road there.

This means getting there requires planning. Below are four practical options with costs and a comfort rating.

The port in Latchi (a fishing village 2 km from Poli Chrysochous, 35 km from Pafos) is the base for trips to Blue Lagoon. Several operators offer different variants:

Group boat trip:

  • Travel time: approx. 45 minutes each way
  • Stop at Blue Lagoon: 2–3 hours
  • Price: 20–30 EUR/person (children under 12 often 10–15 EUR)
  • Program: you sail, swim, and return. Snorkeling equipment is usually included or available for 3–5 EUR.
  • Departure: 9:30–10:30 am, return 14:30–15:30

Rental of a private boat:

  • Small motorboat (for up to 6 people): 80–150 EUR/day without a skipper
  • Skipper: +50–80 EUR/day
  • For 4–6 people, this is often cheaper than a group boat trip

Kayak (from Latchi): Travel time approx. 3–3.5 hours each way. For experienced kayakers. The sea near Akamas can be choppy in the afternoon — departure ONLY in the morning.

Comparing boat options: a group boat trip is the cheapest way to go without your own equipment and without effort.

Option 2: Jeep / 4×4 (for adventure seekers)

From Latchi or the village of Neo Chorio, a dirt road runs along the coast of the Akamas peninsula. Road E701 (jeep track, no asphalt signs) passes through:

  • Neo Chorio → Baths of Aphrodite (fountain, 11 km from Latchi, asphalt)
  • Baths of Aphrodite → Blue Lagoon: another 7 km of dirt track

Car requirements: 4×4 is mandatory after leaving Baths of Aphrodite. An SUV with high suspension may not be able to handle some places — ask local guides. In the dry season, the road turns to mud on a rainy day.

Jeep rental with driver: Organized jeep tours from Pafos, price 35–55 EUR/person. The program usually includes: Baths of Aphrodite → route E701 → Blue Lagoon (stop for 1–2 hours) → return via Smygies → Agios Georgios.

Driving time with your own 4×4 from Latchi: approx. 35–45 minutes.

Option 3: On foot from the E4 trail / Baths of Aphrodite

From the parking area near Baths of Aphrodite (GPS: 35.0593° N, 32.3264° E) runs a hiking trail along the coast. The Aphrodite Trail (E4 West, marked with yellow-blue signs on rocks):

  • Length: 7.5 km each way to Blue Lagoon
  • Elevation: +/- 150 m (small but rocky ascents)
  • Time: approx. 2–2.5 hours each way
  • Surface: Rocky path, places with loose limestone fragments. Solid shoes are essential.
  • Water: No water sources along the way — bring at least 2 liters/person.
  • Shade: Limited — pistachio and cedar shrubs, but low. In July–August, the heat is unbearable after 10:00 am.

Hiking season: April–May and September–October. In the middle of summer, the hiking trail is only possible in the morning (start before 7:00 am).

Along the way you pass:

  • Fontana Amorosa (legendary point of love of Aphrodite)
  • Several small coves accessible by descents (not all for swimming)
  • A viewpoint of Blue Lagoon (approx. 500 m before the descent to the water)

Option 4: Quad or buggy (from rental companies in Pafos)

Several companies in Pafos rent quads and off-road buggies that can handle the dirt roads of Akamas. Formally, motorized traffic on E701 after Baths of Aphrodite is restricted (national park area), but local companies offer tours "with permission." Check the legality with the current regulations with the operator.

Quad/day price: 50–90 EUR. Buggy for 2 people: 70–120 EUR.

The downside of this option: noise and dust definitely spoil the tranquility of the place.

On site — Blue Lagoon

Once you arrive:

  • No infrastructure — no sun loungers, bars, showers, toilets
  • Boat anchoring in the bay — allowed, but maintain a distance of 50 m from the cliffs (underwater rocks)
  • Access to the water from natural rock ledges or from a boat
  • Water: depth 3–8 m, visibility up to 10 m. Underwater caves on the eastern cape — only for divers with certification
  • Water color: depends on the time of day and the angle of the sun. The best turquoise effect: 10:00–14:00

Park rules:

  • No trash cans — take your trash with you
  • Fires prohibited
  • Overnight camping prohibited
  • Fishing restrictions (Caretta caretta protection area in season)

Practical choice

| Criterion | Boat from Latchi | Jeep | On foot | |-----------|--------------|------|--------| | Cost | 20–30 EUR | 35–55 EUR | 0 (parking 2 EUR) | | Effort | Minimal | Minimal | Large | | Time on site | 2–3 h | 1–2 h | As much as you want | | Freedom | Dependent on group | Small | Full |

For families with children: a boat from Latchi is definitely the best option.

Apartments and villas in the Pafos/Latchi area with access to Akamas are within easy reach on CyprusBooker — filter "Pafos", "Poli Chrysochous" or "Latchi".
