Cyprus in October – the second peak of the season. What's working, what's closed, what's worth it

TL;DR

October in Cyprus: warm sea 25°C, fewer crowds, prices 30-40% lower in the second half of the month. Complete guide.

Cyprus in October — The Second Peak Season. What’s Open, What’s Closed, What’s Worth It

October in Cyprus is one of those months that knows it’s special. Summer on the island was hot, noisy, and crowded. November will bring rain. But October — October is a golden time when the island breathes, the temperature drops to a comfortable 27°C, and tourists return home. Those who stay have Cyprus almost to themselves.

Weather in October — Data for Planners

Air Temperature: 24–28°C in the first half of the month, 22–25°C towards the end. Nights: 15–18°C. That means: short sleeves during the day, a light sweater in the evening. No comparison to a Polish October.

Sea Water Temperature: 25–27°C at the beginning of October — the warmest water of the year. The sea accumulates heat throughout the summer and releases it slowly. In the second half of the month, the temperature drops to 23–25°C, but is still ideal for swimming.

Rainfall: October is a transition period. The first half is as dry as summer. Towards the end of the month, the first rains may appear — 1–2 rainy days, no more. Nothing that can spoil your vacation.

UV Index: 4–5, which is moderate. SPF 30 cream is still recommended for longer sunbathing, but you don't have to hide in the shade every 20 minutes like in August.

What’s Open, What’s Starting to Close

Operating Normally Until the End of October:

  • All lifeguarded beaches (lifeguards until 31st October in most places)
  • Water parks (Fasouri Watermania — usually closes around 15–20th October)
  • Water sports: diving, jet ski, parasailing — most operators until the end of the month
  • Boat trips to Blue Lagoon and Akamas
  • All restaurants, taverns, cafes
  • Museums and historical sites — no changes

Closures in October:

  • Some beach bars and party spots (Ayia Napa — some clubs closed from mid-October)
  • Water parks — most often after 15–20th October
  • Some all-inclusive hotels do a "last week" mid-month

October Festivals and Events

Limassol Wine Festival — if you missed it in August or September, some tastings last until mid-October. Grape harvesting in the Krasochoria vineyards takes place in September, but shops and wineries in October still promote fresh vintages.

Limassol Marathon — took place on 19th October in 2025. The event attracts runners from across Europe. The Limassol city center is partially closed, but the atmosphere is unique.

Markets and Village Fairs (panigiri) — October is the end of the fair season. A few last ones take place in the rural areas of Paphos and Limassol.

Nicosia (Lefkosia) — the capital is worth visiting right now. It's still warm, and there aren't as many tourist crowds. Old Town, the divided border line, the Cyprus museum — you can relax.

October Prices — Two Sides of the Month

The first half of October is still high season. The second half sees a clear drop in prices.

| Accommodation | 1–15th October | 16–31st October | |---------|------------------|-----------------| | 2-person Apartment | 80–120 EUR | 55–80 EUR | | 3 Hotel | 100–150 EUR | 70–100 EUR | | 4 Hotel | 160–240 EUR | 110–160 EUR | | Villa with Pool | 250–400 EUR | 160–250 EUR |

Flights from Poland: In October, prices start to fall after the peak in August. Tickets from Warsaw to Larnaca from 200–350 PLN one way is the norm. Kraków–Paphos flights can be even cheaper.

Why is this the "Second Peak Season"?

In Cyprus, there's a term "autumn season" — a fall season that is increasingly popular among Europeans. Germans, Dutch, and Scandinavians flock to Cyprus in October, especially for:

  • Active holidays: cycling, trekking, golf (6 golf courses on the island)
  • Senior recreation: tourist groups 60+ from Germany and Great Britain
  • Holidays after the school year: some Europeans have children in schools that don't have the Polish "October break"
  • Landscape photography: the autumn light in Cyprus is unique

The overall number of tourists in October is higher than in March, but much lower than in August.

Activities Specific to October

Golf

October is the best month for golf in Cyprus. Temperature up to 25°C, no humidity, lawns after summer rains (if watered) in good condition. Main courses: Secret Valley (Paphos), Aphrodite Hills Golf, Vikla Golf Resort.

Cycling around Cyprus

Cycling routes in Cyprus are well marked (Eurovelo network and local routes). In October, the temperature is ideal — not too hot like in summer, not too cold like in March. Coastal routes: Paphos–Coral Bay (18 km), Limassol promenade–Old Port (8 km).

Wreck Diving

Water visibility in October: 20–30 m. The MV Zenobia wreck (Larnaka) — one of the 10 best wrecks in the world. Diving courses and guided dives from 55–80 EUR/person.

Warnings and Pitfalls in October

Halloween parties: Some tourists are surprised that Cyprus organizes Halloween (mainly in hotels and beach bars). This is an imported phenomenon — local Cypriots do not celebrate Halloween.

End of lifeguarded beaches: After 31st October, most beaches do not have lifeguards. You swim at your own risk.

Road conditions: The first rains in October can make roads slippery — especially on mountain roads in Troodos, where accumulated dust and the first rains create a slippery surface. Drive carefully.

Summer vs. Autumn Cyprus

Cyprus in October is a different landscape than in August:

  • August: everything is yellow and brown, dry
  • October: return of greenery after the first rains, golden vineyards, fig trees with fruit
  • November: intense green after the rains, hills like Irish pastures (but warmer)

October offers a double beauty: the summer sea still lasts, and the landscape undergoes a transformation.
