Cyprus in November — Last Warm Days and First Rains. A Practical Guide

November in Cyprus is an ambiguous month. The island is no longer a hot resort, but it's not yet a place of winter greyness either. The air temperature oscillates between 20–23°C, and the sun shines for most days. At the same time, rainfall returns after a 6-month break — and can be surprising. Those who travel in November with their eyes open can find one of the cheapest and most authentic versions of Cyprus.

Weather in November — The Real Picture

Air temperature: 20–23°C on the coast during the day. Nights are cool: 12–15°C. In the Troodos mountains: 8–12°C during the day. The first snow on the summit of Chionistra may appear as early as late November.

Sea water temperature: 22–24°C at the beginning of the month, 20–22°C at the end. The water is warm — much warmer than the air in the evenings. Swimming is possible, although most beaches are already without lifeguards.

Rainfall: This is the difference. It rains in November. On average 70–80 mm of rain spread over 10–12 rainy days. This is not an English gloom — the rains are usually intense and short-lived (1–3 hours), after which the sun comes out. Weekly downpours are rare, but possible.

UV index: 2–3, low. Risk of sunburn is minimal. The sun is shining, but not scorching.

Wind: November can be windy on the coast. Storms are possible — short but intense. Shallow bays may have choppy seas.

What's Open in November

Open normally:

  • All restaurants and taverns (although some beaches lose beach bars)
  • Museums, historical monuments, national parks
  • Supermarkets, shopping malls
  • Golf (great season)
  • Air transport (normal frequency)

Closed or limited:

  • Water parks (closed from mid/late October)
  • Water sports on beaches — some operators end the season
  • Lifeguards on beaches — official end of season
  • Some all-inclusive hotels "frozen" until spring

Advantages of November: Authenticity and Quiet

November is the month when Cyprus becomes itself. Tourists have left. Life returns to local cafes, taverns serving winter dishes, village squares. This is a good time to:

Eat like a Cypriot: The winter menu is different from the summer one. Dishes based on kolokasi (taro), stifado stew, and cold-water fish appear. Restaurants in small villages, which refuse reservations in summer (because they are busy with coach tours), are eager to talk in November.

Explore the interior of the island: Troodos villages — Kakopetria, Platres, Omodos — look different in November. The first rains have awakened the vegetation, the vines' leaves turn golden, rivers begin to flow again. This is an aesthetic that is not available in summer.

See the Kouris lake: The largest freshwater reservoir in Cyprus (Limassol region). After the summer droughts, the water level drops dramatically. November rains begin to fill it — the view is spectacular in both states.

Prices in November — Bottom Season

| Accommodation | Price EUR/night | Price PLN/night | |---------|-------------|-------------| | 2-person apartment | 35–60 | 151–258 zł | | 3 Hotel | 45–75 | 194–323 zł | | 4 Hotel | 80–120 | 344–516 zł | | Swimming pool villa (unheated) | 100–180 | 430–774 zł |

November is one of the cheapest months of the year — often more expensive only than December and early January. Flights from Poland: Warsaw–Larnaka from 150–250 PLN one way. Some seasonal connections are suspended — you need to check if your departure airport has flights in November (Krakow and Katowice have a less frequent schedule than Warsaw).

Who is November Good For?

Ideal November guests:

  • Retirees and people with flexible schedules (without school holidays)
  • Lovers of quiet holidays, walks, photography
  • Golfers — ideal temperatures, lawns after summer heat
  • Writers, creators, digital nomads — quiet, good internet in cities, low prices
  • Those who have never seen Cyprus outside of the season

November is NOT for:

  • Families with children focused on the beach and water parks
  • Tourists looking for parties
  • Those who react badly to rain and changeable weather

Practical Warnings

Swimming pool: Swimming pools in villas and apartments may be unheated — the water temperature of the swimming pool in November is around 12–15°C. For November outdoor temperatures of 12–15°C — it works perfectly, costs about 0.05–0.08 EUR/kWh (Cypriot electricity is expensive: about 0.28 EUR/kWh).

Fireplace or stove (wood burner): Traditional mountain villas have fireplaces with wood or stoves. Fuel is available locally. This is the warmest and most comfortable option for autumn.

Electric heaters: Cheap to buy, more expensive to operate. 1 kWh electric = 0.28 EUR, heater 1500W for 8h = 3.36 EUR/day.

Gas heating: Rare in Cyprus (no gas network in residential buildings, LPG in bottles). Some older villas have gas heaters.

Ask when booking: "Does the apartment have heating for November?" If the answer is "aircon in heat mode" — that's enough. If "we open the windows for fresh air" — that may be a problem.

Cypriot Gastronomy in November — Seasonal Delicacies

Restaurants in November serve dishes that you won't find on the summer menu:

Kolokasi me afelia: pieces of taro cooked with pork in coriander wine. Autumn, warming, authentically Cypriot.

Trachanas soupa: thick soup made from fermented wheat and whey. Served hot with a piece of halloumi. One of the oldest Cypriot meals.

Fresh kasandieri (katiklysmos): mountain village sausages, cold smoked.

Pastries bourekia: filo pastry filled with ricotta or anari (fresh Cypriot cheese). Hot, with tea or Cypriot coffee.

Average bill for dinner in a November tavern: 18–28 EUR/person with wine — comparable to the summer price, but in an empty restaurant with the staff's attention focused on you.
