Cyprus in February — the cheapest time of year, 18°C and blossoming citrus trees

TL;DR

February in Cyprus is the cheapest month of the year: flights from 120 PLN, accommodation from 130 PLN/night, blooming almond trees and the possibility of skiing + sea in one day.

Cyprus in February — the Cheapest Month of the Year, 18°C, and Blooming Citrus Trees

February in Cyprus is a month that most tourist brochures overlook. Too cool for sunbathing, too early spring for a summer climate. But that’s precisely why February has something no other month offers: the cheapest prices of the year, blooming citrus and almond trees, empty roads, and the opportunity to see the island without a commercial overlay.

Weather in February — What to Expect

Air temperature: 15–18°C on the coast during the day. Nights can drop to 8–10°C — a jacket is required. In the Troodos Mountains: 3–8°C, snow possible at heights above 1400 m.

Sea water temperature: 16–17°C. Cold — for hardened sea dippers. No vacation-style sunbathing is possible, but the view of the sea in February’s light has a raw and beautiful quality.

Rainfall: February is one of the rainiest months. An average of 80–100 mm per month, or 12–14 days with rainfall. But — as always in Cyprus — the rains are short and intense. Between them, the sun often shines.

UV index: 2–3, low. You can safely sit in the sun without sunscreen. It’s a pleasant change.

Snow on Troodos: In February, the Troodos Ski Resort (near Mount Olympus, 1952 m above sea level) is operational — if it snows. It’s the only place in Europe where you can theoretically ski in the morning and sit by the sea at 18°C in the afternoon. In practice, this requires careful planning and checking current snow conditions.

Blooming Citrus and Almond Trees — February’s Colors

February is the peak of blooming almond trees in Cyprus. White-pink flowers cover orchards in the Marathasa Valley, Pitsillia, and Paphos regions. Simultaneously, oranges, lemons, and mandarins ripen in Cypriot gardens and along roadsides — the trees literally bend under the fruit.

Vegetable and fruit markets in February offer fresh citrus fruits for 0.50–1.20 EUR/kg. This is the producer’s price, not a tourist price. Buying directly from farmers along the roads is the norm.

Flowering plants in February:

  • Almond trees (amygdalia) — white-pink, the first fruit trees of the year
  • Mallows (molocha) — purple flowers along walls
  • Primroses and anemones — in meadows and along roads
  • Yellow oxalis (Oxalis pes-caprae) — "weed" covering fields with a yellow carpet

Prices in February — Absolute Rock Bottom

February, along with the beginning of January, is the cheapest month of the year in Cyprus.

| Type of accommodation | February EUR/night | August EUR/night | Savings | |-------------|--------------|------------------|-------------| | 2-person apartment | 30–50 | 110–160 | 65–70% | | 3 Hotel | 40–65 | 140–200 | 68% | | 4 Hotel | 70–100 | 220–320 | 68% | | Villa (unheated) | 80–150 | 300–500 | 70% |

In PLN: a good apartment for two people costs 130–215 zł/night in February. That’s the price of a hostel in Barcelona.

Flights: Low-cost airlines (Ryanair, Wizz Air) in February offer tickets from Warsaw to Larnaca from 120–200 PLN one way. The flight takes 4 hours. But be aware: the flight schedule is reduced — some connections are not launched until March. Check availability for specific dates.

Car rental: 20–30 EUR/day, the cheapest of the year. Many rental companies do not require a card deposit in February (low season, less-read regulations — read them anyway).

What to do in Cyprus in February?

Sightseeing without queues and heat

February is the ideal month for intensive sightseeing. All museums, archaeological parks, and monuments are open and practically empty:

  • Paphos Mosaics (Kato Paphos Archaeological Park) — you can walk around it calmly in 3 hours
  • Kourion — an amphitheater and the ruins of a kingdom. In February’s light, the city has a different beauty than in summer
  • Kolossi Castle — a medieval fortress of the Knights of St. John near Limassol
  • Old City of Nicosia — a labyrinth of Venetian walls, museums, a divided city
  • Tombs of the Kings in Paphos — underground necropolises from the 4th–3rd centuries BC.

Skiing + sea in one day

If snow conditions allow — a few hours at the Troodos ski resort (lifts from 15 EUR/day, equipment rental 20–30 EUR). A romantic and unique experience.

Evening in a tavern in the village of Omodos — a grape-growing village in the mountains, stone streets, a tavern with stifado and local wine. February: by the fireplace. Reservation by phone.

**SPA in a 4* hotel in Limassol**: prices fall by 40–50% in February — a couple’s massage for 80–120 EUR instead of August’s 180 EUR.

Valentine's Day in Cyprus — for couples

February 14th is not a big commercial affair in Cyprus like in Western Europe — which makes it a good option for couples who want to avoid overcrowded restaurants and inflated "Valentine's" packages. Unique places for a couple in February:

Aphrodite's Rock (Petra tou Romiou) — a mythical place of the birth of the goddess of love, near Paphos. The western sun at 5:30 PM reflects off the sea and rocks. Romantic kitsch in a good edition. Free, parking 3 EUR.

Carnival (Apokries) — February or March

The Cypriot carnival (Apokries) takes place in February or March, depending on the Orthodox calendar of Easter. Main center: Limassol — the largest carnival in the island.

The whole city participates in the carnival: parades of costumed people, cars with platforms, music for 10 hours. The street party is free. Carnival balls in hotels: 40–80 EUR/person with dinner.

Carnival dates for 2026: check the Orthodox calendar — Apokries lasts 3 weeks before Lent.

Apartments with heated pools and fireplaces available in February can be found on CyprusBooker — it’s a particularly cozy option for a winter Cyprus vacation. Prices for villas with comfortable heating start at 90 EUR/night.
