Cyprus for Digital Nomads — Visas, Internet, Coworking, Cost of Living for 30 Days

TL;DR

Cyprus for digital nomads: cost of living 1500-3000 EUR/month, internet, coworking, visas and tax issues. Complete guide 2026.

Cyprus for Digital Nomads — Visas, Internet, Coworking, Cost of Living for 30 Days

Cyprus has quietly become one of the more interesting destinations on the digital nomad map. Low taxes, well-developed English (a British legacy), sunshine for 340 days a year, and relatively low (compared to the EU) apartment rental costs — these are four strong arguments. But there are also a few pitfalls that no one talks about in motivational posts about "working from the beach."

Visa Status — Who Can, For How Long

EU Citizens (including Polish): Cyprus is an EU country (since 2004) and the Schengen Area — although with an exception: Cyprus is NOT in the Schengen Area. This is important information. EU citizens can stay in Cyprus without restrictions (right of free movement within the EU), but Cyprus does not participate in Schengen.

For a Pole: entry with a personal ID, unlimited stay as an EU citizen. If you want to work remotely for 3+ months, you formally must register your stay with the Immigration Department (Department of Civil Registry and Migration). In practice, many nomads stay for 1–3 months without formal registration — the risk is minimal, but formally non-compliant with regulations.

Non-EU Citizens (e.g., USA, Canada): Cyprus offers the Digital Nomad Visa (Cyprus Startup Visa Scheme) — remote work for non-EU citizens with income from abroad. Requirements:

  • Minimum income of 3500 EUR/month (gross)
  • Health insurance
  • Employment contract outside of Cyprus or self-employment
  • Fee: 70 EUR per application
  • First permit: 1 year, renewable up to 3 years

Internet — Speeds and Availability

Internet Infrastructure in Cyprus: significantly better than a few years ago, but with a large unevenness depending on location.

Large Cities (Larnaka, Limassol, Nicosia, Paphos):

  • Broadband internet: 200–1000 Mbps in new buildings
  • Wi-Fi in cafes: typically 20–50 Mbps, sufficient for video calls
  • 4G/5G: 95%+ coverage in cities, Play and Orange (EU roaming without charges)

Outside cities and Troodos villages:

  • Internet can be weaker — 10–50 Mbps ADSL in older buildings
  • In some mountain villages: 5–15 Mbps. May be insufficient for heavy users (video, calls)
  • Solution: Cypriot SIM card (EPIC, MTN Cyprus, Cablenet) with a data package — unlimited internet from 25–35 EUR/month

Local Operators:

  • EPIC (formerly MTN Cyprus) — largest, good 4G coverage, unlimited packages from 30 EUR/month
  • Cyta (Cytanet) — traditional operator, good in cities
  • Cablenet — cable home internet, Limassol and Larnaka

Coworking Spaces in Cyprus

Larnaka:

  • CoWorkinn Larnaca — dedicated desk from 200 EUR/month, hot desk from 15 EUR/day
  • Synapse (Larnaka) — tech-focused, startups, networking events

Limassol:

  • The Hive — largest coworking space in Limassol, private offices and hot desks
  • Orbit — modern, near the Limassol business center
  • Parklane Co-working (at Parklane Hotel) — premium, but open to external users

Nicosia:

  • Cube — in the center, good connection to the airport and other cities
  • Impact Hub Nicosia — international community, startup events

Paphos: Fewer coworking options. Many nomads work from cafes or apartments.

Cost of Living for 30 Days — Realistic Breakdown

Accommodation (Key Expense)

Long-Term Rental (min. 1 month):

  • Studio/one-room apartment Larnaka (center): 600–900 EUR/month (summer +150 EUR)
  • Studio Limassol (center): 700–1100 EUR/month
  • One-bedroom apartment Paphos: 700–1000 EUR/month
  • Two-bedroom apartment in the mountains (Troodos): 400–700 EUR/month

Short-Term Rental (1–3 weeks, Airbnb/booking):

  • Studio Larnaka: 50–90 EUR/night = 1500–2700 EUR/month
  • More expensive than long-term, but flexible

For nomads: look for monthly discounts on Airbnb (usually -30% on a month-long booking). Or contact the owner directly.

Monthly Expenses — Nomad Table

| Item | Min EUR | Max EUR | |---------|---------|----------| | Accommodation (studio) | 650 | 1100 | | Food (60% cooking, 40% eating out) | 400 | 700 | | Transportation (car + fuel or Bolt) | 200 | 400 | | Coworking or internet | 30 | 200 | | Entertainment, culture, sport | 100 | 300 | | Health insurance | 50 | 120 | | Small purchases and services | 100 | 200 | | Total monthly | 1530 | 3020 |

In PLN: 6579–12 986 zł/month. Cheap for the EU? Not cheap for Asia. But cheap for Western Europe — and ideal for a base.

Social Life for a Nomad in Cyprus

Cyprus has a vibrant expat community — especially Limassol with its Marina, coworking spaces, and English-speaking environment (Russian banks, tech companies). Ways to network:

  • Meetup.com — regular events in Larnaka and Limassol
  • Facebook Groups: "Digital Nomads Cyprus", "Expats in Limassol"
  • Eventbrite — startup conferences, networking evenings

Monthly apartments in Larnaka and Limassol for digital nomads can be found on CyprusBooker — search with the "long-term stay" or "monthly rental" filter. Prices from 650 EUR/month for a studio with fast Wi-Fi.

Summary

Cyprus for a digital nomad: good sunshine, decent internet (in cities), low taxes, English without a language barrier, cost of living 1500–3000 EUR/month. Downsides: transport without a car is difficult, coworking outside Limassol and Larnaka is scarce, summer is too hot to work from the "beach" (38°C without air conditioning). Ideal base: Larnaka or Limassol in May, June, or October.

Working from Cafes — Best Locations in Cyprus

The classic cafe with a laptop works in Cyprus, but with some caveats:

Larnaka:

  • Brew Lab Coffee: fast Wi-Fi, power outlets, tolerance for laptop users
  • The Mill Restaurant: more elegant, good Wi-Fi, city center

Limassol:

  • Brew Espresso Bar: artisan coffee, good Wi-Fi, popular among expats
  • Skinos (Marina area): port view, Wi-Fi 30+ Mbps, higher prices

Paphos:

  • Kiniras Hotel Café: historic cafe, Wi-Fi, Old Town center

Norm for cafes: 1 coffee (2.5-4 EUR) gives you 2-3 hours of sitting without a problem. More — order something else or ask.

Seasonality of Nomad Work in Cyprus

Best months to work remotely from Cyprus:

  • September-November: warm, fewer tourists, quieter cafes
  • March-May: spring, nice weather, lower prices

Worst months:

  • July-August: 38-42 degrees makes working without air conditioning impossible. Electricity bills for air conditioning: an additional 150-300 EUR/month

Banking Services for Nomads

Opening a bank account in Cyprus as a foreign citizen (non-resident EU citizen) requires:

  • Passport or personal ID
  • Proof of address (rental agreement or utility bill)
  • Proof of income

Cypriot banks: Bank of Cyprus, Hellenic Bank, RCB Bank. The process takes 2-4 weeks. For short stays — a Revolut/Wise account in EUR works perfectly in Cyprus.
