The Geroskipou Folk Art Museum sits in the centre of Geroskipou village 3 km east of Paphos, in a restored 19th-century stone mansion (the so-called House of Hadji-Smith — named for its 19th-century British colonial owner). The collection is one of the more thoughtful small folk-art museums on the island, presenting traditional Cypriot rural and urban material culture from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The exhibition runs across the mansion's two floors and the inner courtyard. The ground floor includes a reconstructed traditional Cypriot kitchen with original utensils, agricultural implements (ploughs, threshing boards, traditional olive presses), copperware, and the restored stone wine press in the inner courtyard. The first floor has the more domestic material — embroidered linen, traditional bridal costumes, woven textiles, a substantial collection of women's traditional dress from across the regions of Cyprus, and a small but interesting collection of religious folk art (icons, votive offerings, candles).
The mansion building is itself part of the visit — restored 19th-century Cypriot architecture with original stone walls, traditional wooden floors and ceilings, and the typical inner courtyard layout of merchant houses of the period. The museum sits across the village square from the Church of Agia Paraskevi (the 9th-century five-domed Byzantine basilica), creating a natural pairing for a Geroskipou village half-day.
Insider tips. Allow 60-90 minutes. Entrance is around 2.50 EUR. Photography is generally permitted. The museum is small and unhurried — genuinely curated rather than slick. Closed Sundays. The building's air-conditioning is welcome in summer afternoons.
Combinations. Pair with the Church of Agia Paraskevi (across the square — the 9th-century Byzantine basilica with five domes and 14th-century wall paintings), with Paphos Old Town (10 minutes by car), with the Paphos Archaeological Park (15 minutes), or with a Coral Bay afternoon swim. A complete Pafos cultural day.
Bring. Comfortable shoes for the village walking, water (the museum is small but air-conditioned). When. Tuesday-Saturday during normal museum hours; cool months for combining with old-town walking. The Geroskipou Folk Art Museum is the unhurried, well-curated alternative to the larger state museums and the better introduction to Pafos rural life.
