Aphrodite Hills Golf is the most-played championship golf course on Cyprus and one of the more dramatic courses in the eastern Mediterranean. The 18-hole course was designed by the American course architect Cabell Robinson and opened in 2002 as the centrepiece of the Aphrodite Hills Resort on the south coast, 15 km east of Paphos. The course's signature feature is its setting — par-72, 6,300 yards from the championship tees, with several holes routed along the limestone cliffs above the Mediterranean and consistently spectacular sea views from across the property.
The course is rated as the best on Cyprus by international golf publications and consistently in the top 100 European resort courses. The terrain is gently rolling Mediterranean limestone and pine — the holes work with the natural topography rather than against it, and the cliff-side back-nine holes are the photographic peak of any round. Several holes feature substantial elevation changes; the par-3 7th and the par-4 14th are the signature shots, both with cliff-edge fairways and the sea filling the visual horizon.
The clubhouse facilities are full-service: pro shop, equipment rental, golf academy with PGA instructors, restaurant, bar, locker rooms with shower facilities. Practice facilities include a substantial driving range, putting greens, and short-game area. The resort accommodation is luxury-level if you want to stay; day visitors are welcome with green fees.
Insider tips. Green fees vary seasonally — peak season (October-April) around 130-160 EUR for 18 holes including cart; summer (May-September) around 80-100 EUR. Booking essential — call 24-48 hours ahead in season. Dress code applies (collared shirts, no denim). Equipment rental is available for visitors not bringing clubs (around 30-40 EUR per round). Cart use is mandatory in summer afternoons due to heat.
Combinations. Pair with the Aphrodite Hills viewpoint (5 minutes — panoramic vista), with Petra tou Romiou (10 minutes west — the mythological birthplace of Aphrodite), with Kouklia and the Sanctuary of Aphrodite at Palaepaphos, and with the Aphrodite Hills Resort restaurants for lunch or dinner. A complete south-coast golf day.
Bring. Golf clubs and shoes (or rent on site), appropriate dress code clothing (collared shirts, golf trousers), sunscreen, hat, water, sunglasses with strap. Booking confirmation. Card and ID. When. October-May for the most pleasant playing conditions; summer is playable but the afternoon heat is challenging — early morning rounds only. Aphrodite Hills is the serious golf destination of Cyprus and the natural choice for visitors who want to combine a golfing weekend with the south-coast attractions.
