The Baths of Adonis Waterfall sits in the wooded valley below Pano Akourdaleia village, around 25 km north-east of Paphos. The setting is a small canyon with a 10-metre waterfall dropping into a clear natural pool, surrounded by oleander, fig, and pine, with cool damp air even in summer. Local Cypriot tradition associates the spot with Adonis (the youth loved by Aphrodite) and links the pool to a private bathing place where the goddess and the youth met — a reflection of the way Cypriot rural folklore has continued to weave Aphrodite into the geography of the western Troodos.
The site is run as a small private folkloric park (similar to but separate from the more famous Adonis Baths near Paphos). Entrance is paid (around 10 EUR per adult) and includes access to a short walking trail through the canyon, an exhibition of traditional Cypriot rural objects, and the swimmable natural pool below the falls. The water is cold (around 14-16°C even in summer) and the pool is small — it is a brisk swim under a curtain of falling water rather than a long lazy float.
The trail in is short — around 500 metres of rough stone-and-earth path through the canyon, with several small viewpoints over the falls. Family-run with a hand-made, sincere quality; not a slick attraction.
What to do. Walk the trail, swim in the pool below the falls (bring a swimsuit), photograph, browse the small rural-life exhibition. The full visit is 90-120 minutes including a swim.
Insider tips. Bring a towel, swim shoes, change of clothes. The pool is popular on weekends; mid-week is quieter. The drive in is the last 2 km on an unpaved track — passable in any car, slowly. Open daily roughly 09:00-17:00 in season; closed in deep winter. Cash is accepted.
Combinations. Pair with Adonis Baths near Paphos (the more famous folkloric park, 30 minutes — different family, similar concept), with Polis or Latchi for an afternoon, or with Vouni Panayia Winery (20 minutes east) for a contrasting Pafos-interior day.
Bring. Swimsuit, towel, water shoes, sunscreen, hat, water, change of clothes, camera. When. May-October for swimming; the falls flow strongest after winter rains (February-April). The Baths of Adonis are a smaller, more intimate alternative to the better-known Adonis Baths and a different mood — quieter, less curated, genuinely rural.
