Snorkeling in Cyprus 2026 — Clear Bays and What You Will See Underwater
Cyprus has some of the clearest, warmest water in the Mediterranean, and you do not need scuba gear to enjoy it. With a mask and fins, a whole underwater world opens up just a few metres from shore — making 2026 a perfect year to try snorkeling.
The best snorkeling bays
- Cape Greco (Cavo Greco): dramatic rocky coastline, sea caves and superb visibility — the island's snorkeling star.
- Konnos Bay: a sheltered horseshoe of turquoise water, ideal for beginners and families.
- Blue Lagoon (Akamas): famously transparent water where fish drift right below you.
- Coral Bay & Green Bay (Paphos): gentle entry and rocky patches full of life.
What you will see
Expect shoals of bream and damselfish, curious wrasse, the occasional octopus tucked into a crevice, and bright sponges and sea grass swaying in the current. Lucky snorkelers near Akamas and Cape Greco sometimes spot sea turtles gliding by — Cyprus is an important nesting ground for green and loggerhead turtles.
Tips for a great, safe swim
- Go in the morning when the sea is calmest and clearest.
- Snorkel with a buddy and stay aware of boats — use marked swimming zones.
- Wear water shoes and a rash top for sun protection.
- Never touch or chase marine life; admire from a respectful distance.
Why the visibility is so good
Low pollution, little sediment and calm summer conditions keep the water astonishingly clear — often 20–30 metres of visibility. Combined with sea temperatures of 24–28°C from June to October, snorkeling here feels effortless and warm.
Pack a mask in 2026 — the best of Cyprus is often just beneath the surface.
